Latest Batch and Prep Work

Finished off some miniatures and prepping some more.

The gnoll is a touch up from Wizards of the Coast. The thing was initially almsot all black so while I was painting other figures I would throw some paint on it.

The demon next to him is the Heresy one. I had the red on him done for a while as he was my test figure.

The little dragon didn't initially come with a base but if I wanted to prevent it from chipping and tipping over... that's a creature from the Dragons of the Emerald Idol set in the Fantasy Lords box by Grenadier. The last one is a Games Workshop Armored Archer for the Empire done up in Nordland colors.

These are the guys I was waiting for the inks to dry on. Lots of inks involved with these Chronopia Black Orcs. They have kind of a middle east thing going on. I made the leader stand out a little by changing his base. The figures are some interesting sculpts but I thought these were bad casts. The bases on the 'grunts' are done using Happy Suppuku and green stuff. The leader's base is done up with some army painter flock and gale force 9 dried grass.

And on the workbench...

Yeah, I still haven't hit the daemon prince yet. The dragon in the middle is the large dragon from the Dragons of the Emerald Idol set. I threw him on the round base that the daemon came with if you use it for 40K. Fits well. Threw some skulls and other debris on the base. The last guy is I believe a Mountain Giant from Ral Partha. The original date on the base is 1977. We've come a long way. Have to at least let these set overnight. There's a ton of green stuff on the dragon and a ton of glue. Messing with it, especially it being all metal and only two pieces, wings and body, made me remember that despite my love of these old figures, they could be a huge pain in the ass if things didn't fit and man, those wings did not fit.

Red Rum! (Red Primer?)

A couple of quick shots from my new phone. These are some battle boxes for Khador from Privateer Press that have been hit up with the Army Painter red primer. These include the original metal and the new plastics as well as that demon from previous pics. The metal figures are smaller, but have larger heads and more detail. Still, I like the plastic ones because they have more sense of presence. At least for this boxed set.

That demon is from Heresy miniatures and I wanted to make him with the bone scythe but there were many gaps in assembling him and if not for Green Stuff, I would've broke him down into parts.

This batch... I'll probably do the old metals with Army Painter dip after I lay down the base colors and use the demon to test the red effect I'll be going for on the plastics.

It's All In The Prep

While I'm not a fan of the way Games Workshop is going overall, sometimes they make some products well worth the cost. Here, the boxed set innards of the Demon Prince, which goes for something like $33 a pop. Strangely enough, a resin Ogre character, with no extras, no sprue material, etc... goes for $38. Ugh. The stupdity. I can smell it through the internets.

Lots of pieces here. There are at least three distinct ways you can make this bad boy.

Okay, the guy on the left is a Reaper Stone Giant. The guy in the middle is the demon assembled. The green stuff is liquid green stuff. It's.... interesting. If you have large gaps, I think you're better off working with standard green stuff. You can't tell from this picture but that stone gian'ts left arm on the rear needed a huge chunk of green stuff. The little guy is a demonic champion from Heresy. Have to wait for the base material to dry, do some sanding on the green stuff, and then prime away! The stone giant should be a super quick finish while I suspect that the demon prince may take a little longer and the little guy I still have to put together. The bases are all done with Happy Suppuku by the way.

Anyone else doing any assembly of projects or other good stuff? I know that Dread Fleet by Games Workshop is consuming a lot of people's time.

Reaper, Heresy, Rafm, Mega, Ral Partha, and WoTC

Okay, the cyclops is from heresy.

The guy in purple is an old storm giant from Ral Partha.

The minotaur next to him is a Reaper.

The minotaur in front of the first row is from WoTC (I believe) from their 25th anniversery set.

The three ladies are from Mega Minis.

The two serpent people are from Rafm from the CoC line.

Variety is the Spice!

I've had this one in various stages of competion for many a moon. Probably since last year honestly. It's just another one I kept wondering, "why don't I just finish him." He's from Dark Sword Miniatures and they have some fantastic sculpts.

This is a Griffin Templar I believe. It's from Rakcham when they used to do metal. It's one of three. The other two are essentially done, but I can't find their shields. The shields by the way, are terrible in that the contact point is minimal and prone to falling off. I'll probably blue tack it next time it comes off.

Looks like one of the Games Workshop ogres right? Color selection might have a little to do with that in terms of skin tone, but this fellow is from Heresy miniatures. The arms were a huge pia as even after throwing in the green stuff, there were still semi-visible wedges.

This is a goblin chief from Crocodille games for the Pathfinder Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path. A ton of 'fiddy' bits on it and it's been in various stages of completion since it first game out. I just got tired of it and finished it off and gave it a quick seal. No point in prolonging the pain. It's a great fig but I'm realizing as I get older that my patience level for fiddy bits is wanning quick.
This skeleton warrior didn't want to be photo shot. I tried like six times before I gave up the ghost. So you get blurry skeleton warrior from Rafm. He's part of a three pack and I've got the other two in various stages of completion as well. Maybe they'll take.

This top row is a group of six 'bulls' from Games Workshop. They are part of an Ogre Kingdom army I've had in storeage for a long time and finally decided to paint. Expect to see many more of these puppies as all the 'block' painting of flesh, cloth and metal is done and the touch ups are happening now.

This is another chaos dwarf from Hasslefree Miniatures. I love the simplicity of it. It's a nice touch without being over complicated by thousands of pouches, bags, miselaneous weapons, etc...
